Before you book storage

• Ask what temperature and humidity the chamber actually holds, not what it is rated for. Potato, onion and apple each need something different.
• Ask about generator backup. A power cut of a few hours in summer can undo a whole season.
• Agree the rate per bag per month in writing, and ask what happens if you leave the stock longer than booked.
• See the chamber before you send produce. Smell and frost on the walls tell you more than any brochure.
